Roberts to intern with Walt Disney Company
Sara Roberts, a senior public relations major from Paintsville, Kentucky, will start her career in a professional internship position with The Walt Disney Company in January 2019. Roberts was offered a position in the Cast Activities, Recognition and Experience department as a Special Events intern.
In this role, she will assist in the planning and execution of a variety of global events for employees at Walt Disney World, including Service Celebrations, Magic Backstage and company-wide distributions.
Roberts spent the spring 2017 semester participating in the Disney College Program, where she says she solidified her hopes for a future with Disney.
“The experience I gained from the Disney College Program is irreplaceable. As soon as I went through the company’s orientation, I knew my new goal was to come back after graduating,” Roberts said.
Currently, Roberts works for Eastern’s Student Life & First-Year Experience department as an event planner, to which she attributes her success. She also studied abroad for the summer 2018 term with several others from Eastern’s Department of Communication, including public relations faculty member Dr. Jim Gleason.
“My advice to college students is to do everything you can to gain experience in things you’re interested in,” Roberts said. “Going the extra mile now will put you above the competition later, especially if it’s unfamiliar and out of your comfort zone.”
