Public Relations

Make things happen. Make a difference in your town, nation, or the world. The public relations program at EKU can help you do that. EKU's public relations program is certified by the Public Relations Society of America, making it the only such program in Kentucky and one of only eight in the nation. We have the faculty and facilities to make you successful in this exciting field. PR is a function of the management side of business and organizations that focuses on earning and improving a positive image for that company or organization. PR practitioners help the organization to communicate to a variety of groups, using a variety of methods.

Careers in Public Relations
When you graduate with a degree in PR from EKU, you'll be ready to join the ranks of EKU grads who already hold positions in corporations, hospitals, non-profit organizations, educational institutions, and PR agencies in Kentucky and across the country. You'll be involved in preparing newsletters and publications, writing for print and electronic media, preparing for material for the internet, planning events, even negotiating compromises between the business or organization and those who are affected by it.

Philosphy
The Department of Communication combines public relations theory and philosophies and applies them to the practice through technology and practical learning opportunities. Professors are experienced, enthusiastic and passionate about giving students the skills necessary to succeed. Courses emphasize hands-on learning and models of instruction that teach students how to be successful professionals in an ever-changing environment.
