Bio

Dr. Karen L. Rudick is a Professor of Communication Studies.  She received her Ph.D. from Purdue University in Organizational Communication with an emphasis in Negotiations in 1991.  Dr. Rudick started teaching at Eastern Kentucky University in 1992.  She teaches courses in Negotiation, Communication Theory, Organizational Communication, and Interviewing.

Created in 2005 by alumni and with alumni donations, the Karen L. Rudick Entrepreneurial Scholarship pays tribute to Dr. Rudick’s dedication and service to students majoring in Communication Studies.

Dr. Rudick has received numerous teaching awards such as the following: (1) the 2015 Critical Thinking Teacher Award that recognizes “outstanding faculty members who have had substantial positive effects on developing their students’ critical/creative thinking skills” (http://associatedeanup.eku.edu/critical-thinking-teacher-year); (2) the 2014 “Excellence in Teaching Award” from the EKU International Alumni Association to honor outstanding faculty members; (3) the 2010 “Golden Apple Award” for “going above and beyond to make a difference in student’s lives” by E.K.U.’s University Housing; (4) the 2009 Distinguished Educational Leader Award for “Exceptional Classroom Performance” by the Eastern Kentucky University Student Government Association; and (5) the 2006 Distinguished Educational Leader Award for “Most Outstanding” teacher by the Eastern Kentucky University Student Government Association.

Dr. Rudick was also recognized for her statewide service by the Kentucky Association of Colleges and Employers (K.A.C.E.).  She was awarded the "2010 Distinguished Service Award" given to "an individual who has made outstanding contributions to the advancement of the philosophy and practice of cooperative education internships, career services or employment of post-secondary students and alumni" (http://www.kaceweb.net/Awards).
